Position Overview
The National Youth Service is recruiting 200 experienced Motor Vehicle Drivers to support its nationwide operations. This role involves responsible vehicle operation, routine vehicle maintenance, and adherence to all safety regulations and NYS policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive NYS vehicles safely and in line with traffic and NTSA regulations
- Conduct daily vehicle checks (engine oil, fluid levels, tire pressure, etc.)
- Ensure timely servicing of the vehicle at designated NYS service bays
- Maintain cleanliness and roadworthiness of assigned vehicles
- Log fuel usage, mileage, and report mechanical issues promptly
- Assist in route planning and coordinate with other transport personnel
Minimum Qualifications
Academic Requirements
- KCSE certificate with at least a D+ grade or its equivalent
- Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili (reading and writing)
- Additional training in communication, hospitality, or customer service is a plus
Professional Requirements
- Valid BCE-class driver’s license from NTSA
- Valid PSV license
- Passed a government-approved driver proficiency/suitability test
- Minimum 5 years of driving experience with an accident-free record
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct (issued within the last 6 months)
- Defensive driving and/or first aid certification is an advantage
Core Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of traffic regulations and NTSA standards
- Ability to maintain and inspect basic vehicle systems
- GPS and digital navigation familiarity (e.g., Google Maps, Waze)
- Accurate record-keeping of vehicle usage and maintenance logs
- Professionalism, discipline, and respect for schedules
- High integrity, accountability, and moral conduct
- Good grooming, personal hygiene, and presentability
- Ability to work well in a team and maintain composure under pressure
